Service Description
This class is for dogs and handlers that have successfully completed a beginning obedience class and are ready to build on their skills. Dogs entering this class should already have been introduced to heeling, sit, stay, down, and come. Through continued practice, handlers will learn to strengthen these skills while improving communication, reliability, and teamwork with their dogs. The goal is a well-mannered companion who is easier and more enjoyable to live with at home and welcome around family, friends and neighbors. This class also provides excellent preparation for the AKC Canine Good Citizen (CGC) test and introduces handlers to competition obedience for those interested in entering trials to achieve a Companion Dog (CD) title. Completion of this class and successful completion of the CGC test are strongly recommended before enrolling in the Therapy Dog Prep Class, which will be offered starting in October. Equipment needed: Training collar (Slip chain, slip collar, flat, prong, or martingale), 6-foot leash, and small soft training treats. Please wear indoor shoes on the training mats.
Our Policy
To ensure a safe, respectful, and positive environment for all participants, please follow these guidelines: Facility Etiquette Smoking is not permitted inside the training facility. Please do not disturb classes in progress. Be courteous during class. Observers must remain quiet and out of the way. Objectionable or offensive language is not allowed. Children must be supervised at all times by an adult who is not training a dog. Participants must be at least 12 years old or accompanied by an adult. Dog Care & Safety Dogs must be taken to the designated “potty area” before class. Owners are responsible for promptly cleaning up after their dogs. Dogs may not urinate or defecate on equipment, buildings, or other property. Proof of vaccination (rabies, distemper, and parvovirus) is required before attending class. Dogs with fleas are not permitted in the facility. Female dogs in heat may attend class only if wearing protective pants. If you bring more than one dog, any unattended dog must be crated. Electronic collars (e-collars/shock collars) are not allowed in class. Hitting, kicking, or otherwise striking a dog with hands, feet, or leashes is strictly prohibited. Any dog posing a danger to people or other dogs may be excused from the facility. Please see our policy on Recognizing and Responding to Aggressive Behavior. Classes and Registration Canine Connection Brainerd Kennel Club does not offer refunds if a participant misses a class. Refunds for an entire class will only be issued with Board approval. If a class is canceled due to inclement weather or instructor illness, a make-up class will be scheduled.
